I am pleased to announce that the COGOP Women’s Empowerment Project in Botswana registered a major milestone recently with the signing of a contract for a tenant to run a creche/nursery school effective January, 2014. The school will pay rent to the church for the use of the three class rooms, an office, and play ground area.
The project will initially be run by a Christian private school entrepreneur and will employ two women from the church who have been trained on nursery school through the Josephine Carty and Harvest Partner scholarships. It will be run by a board that comprises two COGOP pastors and members of the community. In this partnership, this Christian woman who is experienced in
schools management (she is running three other schools) will partner with the church on a rental basis while employing and training our women and the church for a possible takeover in four years time.
At this teething stage of the business (the first for Botswana), the partnership will allow us to focus on the Gospel while making a monthly rental profit and giving our empowerment women experience in a Christian english medium setting.
We are thankful to the sponsors, Harvest Partners and the general presbyter for Africa, Bishop Masilela, and his Africa Finance and Administration Committee for believing in us in investing in this project. We are particularly grateful to Sister
Josephine Carty of the Virgin Islands for being the first to put a significant amount into this project about three years ago, putting in motion a dream that is now becoming a reality.
Rejoice with us and pray that the remaining protocols with the local municipality will be approved. We look forward to the positive testimony that this will have for the church in the Lobatse-Woodhall community. Already the school has made a commitment to reach its goal to sponsor one orphan for every 10 children registered.
